An order is passing.
This is the interregnum.
An interregnum describes the interval between orders, a span during which the old no longer commands belief and the new has not yet secured its claim. Such intervals have marked the passage of civilizations throughout history, and we find ourselves within one at the 250th anniversary of the American experiment.
The incentives laid down in the postwar era have been inverted. Institutions built to endure show fracture under the weight of their own inheritance. The long cycles of debt, legitimacy, and succession converge and press upon the present, and what was once abstract now becomes felt. In such moments, civic character is not inherited but demonstrated by whether attention is paid and whether it holds.
INTERREGNUM offers no resolution, and it advances no program or promise of what will follow. It is a fixed record, an on-chain ledger of presence across 250 days at this threshold. Not of certainty, but of attention. To sign as a witness is a mark that you were here. What the record creates is a durable and public archive of intentional return during a period of institutional instability.
Presence is the act. Witness is the duty.
INTERREGNUM does not govern. It does not prescribe. It records. To record at a moment of institutional fracture is not a passive act. Admittedly, a blockchain is an unfashionable place to put something sincere; however, it is also one of the few place this record can exist without an owner, where this project can make the record public and durable.
Each witness is a public trace. Persistence is what compounds: each return extends the record. Across 250 days, those traces form a record of presence at a civic threshold.
A single witness establishes a presence. Many witnesses, returning across many days, give the record weight.
Such a record is made not only for those who keep it, but for those who will later ask what forms of attention remained available here, who was present, and what they chose to mark. A record of this kind, timestamped, public, and tamper-resistant, becomes available as a reference point for systems that do not yet exist.
It may later serve as a point of reference, whether that be archival, commemorative, or long-horizon.
Connect a wallet on Base to call witness() directly from this page.
One call per day. The lottery resolves on-chain.
Every outcome, including a miss, is recorded permanently.
INTERREGNUM will never ask you for your private key or personal information.
Your private key is never requested, transmitted, or stored, and it should never be given out. Transactions are signed locally by your wallet extension. This site sees only your public address. Public addresses and on-chain transactions are visible to the public.
Each day of the 250-day interval, the contract may be called once. Each call records presence and resolves a probabilistic outcome. The mechanism is simple: only the act of returning.
To participate, any wallet may call witness() once per day.
A Chainlink VRF mechanism determines the outcome of each lottery.
The lottery outcome may issue each witness with a token.
The record, as a durable artifact, is what matters.
witness() once per rolling 24-hour period. The log favors regularity and presence over accumulation.
Each call to witness() is resolved into one of four outcomes.
The odds follow a Fibonacci-derived structure, weighted so that each tier is proportioned to the next
by the same ratio that structures the full distribution.
These proportions are not fixed. They shift across the run as the remaining supply depletes and as an address accumulates appearances.
Every call, regardless of outcome, is a permanent entry in the record.
The distribution evolves as supply approaches its limit. No liquidity will be seeded; no promises are made.
Participation requires a wallet and the willingness to return.
INTERREGNUM runs on Base, an Ethereum Layer 2 network. A self-custodied wallet and a small amount of ETH on Base are sufficient to cover transaction fees. No token purchase is required.
If you have never used a blockchain wallet before, the steps below will take approximately 20 minutes to complete once. After that, showing up each day takes less than a minute.
The contract opens July 1, 2026.
INTERREGNUM reduces blockchain participation to a single civic act: return, sign, and be recorded. In this context, your wallet is treated as a public signature rather than a trading account.
Each transaction is an act of presence. The record is permanent regardless of outcome. The smart contract is treated as a rule-bound record rather than a product.
witness(). Return each day.
witness(). Return each day.
INTERREGNUM is a smart contract on Base (chainID 8453). There is no governance. There are no admin keys. The founder receives exactly one token at genesis. No further allocation follows. The founding record underpinning this project is stored on IPFS, its hash encoded permanently in the contract.
